BANNERS

Hangs and removes all SXSW banners in panel rooms and official venues throughout the event. Requires stamina, balance and the ability to carry 30+ lbs.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts for a Volunteer SXSWedu Badge, 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge or 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

CONVENTION CENTER STAGE CREW

Stages within the Austin Convention Center host various speakers, panels, music performances and other presentations during the days of the event. This crew maintains the spaces and helps with set up of the various events. Some heavy lifting may be required.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts for a Volunteer Music Badge. A Volunteer Platinum Badge can be earned by working 5 days of SXSW Music, March 17-21. NOT eligible for a Volunteer Gold Badge.

DJ TEAM*

Following a schedule and working as a team, this role involves the delivery and pickup of DJ equipment throughout the event, covering a variety of locations and venues, working around performance schedules and load-in/out times. This includes setup and pack down of gear and often being on-call for technical assistance with equipment. There is an opportunity to meet pre-event and do a training session with the team - basic to expert training - and a great way to meet everyone and run through how the nights will proceed.

Shifts begin at 5pm and end quite late during all nights of Music. Team members must be 21+ and have DJ experience with technical knowledge. This role can be physically demanding; volunteers must be strong and fit.

FILM PROJECTIONISTS

Responsible for the presentation of films at venues. Receive and cue tapes, perform tech checks individually and with film representatives prior to screening. Digital projection of festival trailers and films. Experience preferred, but not required.

Requires a minimum of 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge, 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

FILM ROADIES & RUNNERS*

Loads Film Tech Center equipment in and out, builds screening facilities when necessary, transports films to appropriate venues for screenings. Must be age 21+, with a good driving record and valid insurance. Pre-event availability, heavy lifting required.

Requires a minimum of 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge, 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

FILM TRAFFIC

Tracks receipt and shipment of all films to the Film Tech Center, some pre-event availability required.

Requires a minimum of 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge, 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

FILM VENUE STAFF

Admits attendees into film venues, introduces films and filmmakers if necessary, ensures that films start on time and clears the theater after screenings.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts for a Volunteer SXSWedu Badge, 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge, or 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

HIGH BEAM EVENTS*

Helps staff official parties and special events during SXSW Film, Interactive, and Music. Must be age 21+.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts for a Volunteer SXSWedu Badge, 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge, or 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

MUSIC PRODUCTION RELIEF*

Volunteers will fill-in at various music venues where needed, between the hours of 5:30PM and 2AM. May be asked to perform any of the various tasks that other Production Crews perform. Volunteers must be 21 years of age or older.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts for a Volunteer Music Badge. A Volunteer Platinum Badge can be earned by working 5 days of SXSW Music, March 17-21. NOT eligible for a Volunteer Gold Badge.

OUTDOOR STAGE

Outdoor Stage performances take place Thursday-Saturday, March 19-21, at Auditorium Shores. Volunteers will staff the entrance to the park and various access points within it. Daytime availability is required Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday. An additional set-up day will take place on Wednesday, March 18.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts to earn a Volunteer Music Badge. A Volunteer Platinum Badge can be earned by working at least three 8-hour shifts, plus one 12-hour shift. NOT eligible for a Volunteer Gold Badge.

PHOTOGRAPHERS*

Assigned to photograph all aspects of Interactive, Film and Music: keynote addresses, panel sessions, parties, music venues, showcases and more. Must be age 21+ and have a Digital-SLR camera and portfolio ready to view on the internet. All photography is assignment-based. PRODUCTION DELIVERY CREW*

Following a schedule and working as a team, this role involves the delivery and pickup of power transformers (power conversion) to international artists and occasional technical equipment to sound engineers. Technical knowledge is a plus but certainly not a requirement. Some driving is required but shared between the team. Shifts will cover a variety of locations and venues around performance schedules and load-in/out times.

Shifts begin at 5pm and end quite late during all nights of Music. Team members must be 21+ and have a valid drivers license. This role can be physically demanding; volunteers must be strong and fit.

PRODUCTION RELIEF*

Volunteers will fill-in on various production crews where needed, between the hours of 10AM and 2AM. May be asked to perform any of the various tasks that other Production Crews perform. Assignments are subject to venue age restrictions.

Requires a minimum of 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge, 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

SPECIAL VENUES CREW (SVC)

Roaming volunteer teams that assist venues in need of additional support. Volunteers handle lines and crowds outside of official venues. Crew members are not assigned to a specific venue and assist at any location as needed. In addition, this crew has a bike team that rides throughout the downtown area assisting with crowd control. Experienced bicycle enthusiasts are encouraged to join this crew.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts during Music for a Volunteer Music Badge. A Volunteer Platinum Badge can be earned by working 5 nights March 17-21 or 4 nights during the SXSW Music Festival plus 2 half-shifts at other high attendance events. NOT eligible for a Volunteer Gold Badge.

SPONSOR PHOTOGRAPHY*

Assigned to photograph on-site SXSW sponsorship activations within the conferences and festivals. Must be age 21+ and have a digital SLR camera.

Requires a minimum of 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge, 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

STAGE CREW*

Assist performers loading equipment into venues, and on and off the stage during set changes. Helps the venue staff maintain entrance points, communicates pertinent information to artists, stage managers and staff as well as survey the venue for potential problems.

Stage Crew volunteers are assigned to one of the official SXSW Music Festival venues, and will work in the same venue each night. Every effort is made to assign volunteers based on musical preference, however assignments are subject to venue age restrictions. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, 21+ preferred.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts for a Volunteer Music Badge. A Volunteer Platinum Badge can be earned by working a stage that operates at least 5 nights of SXSW Music, March 17-21. Not eligible for a Volunteer Gold Badge.

STAGE MANAGER*

This is a position of significant responsibility. A stage manager works as a liaison between the SXSW Staff, venue and performers. They are responsible for managing the performance schedule and stage crew at one of the official SXSW Music Festival venues. Involves a great deal of pre-event work, as well as availability throughout the music festival. Volunteers must be age 21+, no exceptions. Because of the number of pre-event meetings, you must live in the local Austin area, or you must have volunteered previously SXSW.If you’re interested in this position please email productionvols@sxsw.com.

SXSW Stage Managers earn a Platinum Badge.

STREET TEAM*

Work in and around the SXSW street closures throughout SXSWeek, March 13-21. Volunteers will assist SXSW permitted participants with loading and unloading in the designated areas, place notices around the downtown area informing the artists, sponsors and the public about street closures and the downtown parking situation while monitoring the areas for any safety issues. Volunteers may be asked to drive golf carts, so volunteers must hold a valid driver's license.

Requires a minimum of 5 shifts for a Volunteer Music Badge, or 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge. NOT eligible for a Volunteer Gold Badge.

THEATRE MANAGER*

This is a position of significant responsibility. A theatre manager works as a liaison between the SXSW Staff, venue, filmmakers and registrants. They are responsible for managing the film schedule and the SXSW Film Venue Staff Crew at one of the official SXSW Film Festival venues. Involves a great deal of pre-event availability for meetings and training, as well as availability throughout the film festival. Volunteers must be age 18+, no exceptions. Because of the number of pre-event meetings, you must live in the local Austin area, or you must have volunteered previously SXSW. SXSW Theatre Managers earn a Platinum Badge.

TRANSPORTATION*

Drives SXSW vehicles and vans to and from various locations to pick up supplies or other items needed by SXSW Staff. May be asked to transport talent, speakers or guests of SXSW. Drivers must be age 21+, with valid ID and insurance. Dispatchers can be under age 21, but must be able to navigate Austin streets.

Requires a minimum of 3 shifts for a Volunteer SXSWedu Badge, 5 shifts for a Volunteer Gold or Music Badge or 7 shifts for a Volunteer Platinum Badge.

NOTE: Only those crews with the Volunteer SXSWedu Badge option listed operate during SXSWedu.

*These crews have minimum age requirements or require special skills.
