South by Southwest offers a broad range of internships. Our focus is to provide a real-life learning experience within the organization, so that students are better prepared to seek employment after graduation.

Internships That Are Currently Available:


Client Event Production Intern

Role Description

Assist the Client Event Production team with a wide range of responsibilities including providing support on client activations, logistical planning, fulfillment for SXSW clients through administrative organization, thorough information management, event planning (pre-event and onsite), production management, and creative problem solving. Facilitate weekly exports of client contracts. Maintain accurate tracking processes and documents through ongoing coordination with all SXSW departments, vendors and clients.

The intern will learn how to facilitate the production of a client event from beginning to end, as well as how to organize and track large amounts of client information.

Digital Marketing Intern

Role Description

The SXSW Strategy and Insights Department is seeking an individual to assist with marketing strategy, data collection/analysis, and marketing automation. The intern will be responsible for short and long term projects, including helping the Strategy & Insights team with record keeping, brainstorming, logic design, and a variety of other projects relating to analytics and marketing coordination. Data entry, meeting attendance, and administrative tasks related to marketing management will be required. This position will provide a wide spectrum of experience in regards to the production of a large scale event.

Event Staffing & Resources (ES&R) Intern

Role Description

The SXSW Event Staffing & Resources Department is seeking several Individuals to assist in the coordination of almost 4,000 volunteers, as well as other event planning projects. The intern will be responsible for weekly learning projects, including helping volunteers with the volunteer sign-up process, volunteer scheduling, social and training event planning, and a variety of other projects relating to volunteer and event coordination. Data entry, phone inquiries, and administrative tasks related to volunteer management will be required. The ES&R Department works closely with all departments within SXSW to ensure proper planning and execution of the volunteer plan. This position will provide a wide spectrum of experience in regards to the production of a large scale event.

Film Conference Intern

Role Description

The Film department at SXSW is seeking an individual who is eager to learn more about pre-event planning at a Film Festival conference. This will be a broad, hands-on introduction to the basics of internal operations. This person will interface with Film Conference Speakers so great communication skills are a must.

Film Production Intern

Role Description

The Film department at SXSW is seeking individuals who are eager to do production work at and leading up to the Film Festival. An individual seeking this position should have an interest in event production and a willingness to work hard.

Film Submission Intern

Role Description

The SXSW Film department is seeking an individual who is eager to learn more about pre-event planning at a Film Festival. This will be a broad, hands-on introduction to the basics of internal operations primarily focused on Festival Submissions. This internship will require interfacing with those who submit to the SXSW Film Festival, so great communication skills are a must.

Film Tech Intern

Role Description

The Film Tech department at SXSW is seeking individuals who are eager to learn the Film Tech Database and different exhibition formats used at the festival. An individual seeking this position should have an interest in film exhibition and a willingness to work hard.

Innovation Intern (AI)

Role Description

Innovation Group Intern focused on AI: Are you obsessed with the ever evolving and dynamic world of AI platforms and software? Do you consider the industry full of possibilities and new frontiers? Do you often wonder how the creative and commercial sides co­exist and compliment each other?

At SXSW, AI is integral in producing extraordinary experiences for our attendees as well as providing superior services for our clients and partners, who happen to be some of the biggest companies in the world: Bud Light, Mazda, McDonald’s, to name a few. We are striving to create the best SXSW AI enhanced experiences with each event.

The AI Innovation Intern will be responsible for assisting the team by gathering and assembling assigned researched materials to ensure the team members are well informed and up to date on the most recent news, trends, market research, and latest advancements in the field of AI.

The ideal intern must work well within a team, have excellent communication skills and be agile in a demanding environment.

Innovation Intern (VR)

With tens of thousands of attendees, SXSW is committed to producing extraordinary VR experiences for its attendees as well as providing outstanding activations and showcases for our clients and partners, who happen to be some of the biggest companies in the world: Bud Light, Mazda, McDonald’s, to name a few. We are striving to transform how the world discovers, interacts, and experiences SXSW with VR.

The VR Innovation Intern will be responsible for assisting the team by gathering and assembling assigned researched materials to ensure the team members are well informed and up to date on the most recent news, trends, market research, and latest advancements in the field of VR.

Music Festival and SXSWfm Marketing Intern

Role Description

The Communications Department is seeking individuals to assist with content marketing efforts for the Music Festival and SXSW’s official online radio channel, SXSWfm. The interns will be responsible for drafting and posting social media content, monitoring social media for pertinent trending topics, writing blog copy for sxsw.com, sourcing and editing photos, assisting with 2017 editorial content, and proofing print materials. Email and phone inquiries and other administrative duties related to marketing will be required. The Communications Department works closely with several departments within SXSW to execute campaigns to promote our official events. This position will provide a wide spectrum of experience in regards to marketing a large scale event.

Planning Event Coordinator Intern – Fall 2016

Role Description

The SXSW Planning Department deals with contracting, organizing, detailing and executing the various SXSW events throughout the year. From managing convention space to developing long-term strategies for growth and sustainability the Planning Department operates at the center of all things SXSW. The Event Planning Coordinator will assist with contracting, managing activations, transportation and logistics management, as well as the coordinating of production elements necessary for successful execution of our many conferences and events.

The Summer/Fall Event Coordinator Internship will be working extensively on the logistics and details of our fall conferences – SXSW Eco and the Texas Tribune Festival – as well as advance planning and contract work related to SXSW’s March conferences.

Planning Event Coordinator Intern – Spring 2017

Role Description

The SXSW planning department deals with contracting, organizing, detailing and executing the various SXSW events throughout the year. From managing convention space to developing long-term strategies for growth and sustainability the planning department operates at the center of all things SXSW. The event planning coordinator will assist with contracting, managing activations, transportation and logistics management, and the coordinating of production elements necessary for successful execution of a two-week long event.

Our Spring Planning Event Coordinator internship position requires a detail-oriented individual who can handle task-based assignments as well as general direction to produce planning documents and maintain the high standard of production that has made SXSW a success.

Production Department Intern

Role Description

The SXSW Production Department is seeking a production intern to assist our team with event production, planning and execution that will include venue walkthroughs, vendor acquisition, production advancement, and onsite production coordination. This is a great opportunity to learn the basics of conference and festival production management from inception to execution and completion.

Software Development Team Intern

Role Description

The SXSW Tech Department is seeking an intern to assist in the support and maintenance of various software products including SXSW.com, SXSW Cart, SXSocial, SXSchedule, etc. The internship will focus on internal and external technical support, evaluation and testing of software, and general administrative duties.

SXSWfm Music & Production Intern

Role Description

SXSWfm is seeking an intern to assist in the day-to-day administrative and research tasks associated with SXSWfm music, programming and production. Responsibilities include: adding music to and organizing the SXSWfm library, researching SXSW artists past and present – this includes keeping track of upcoming releases, important news and tour schedules – and assisting the SXSWfm Production Coordinator where needed.

Tech Intern

Role Description

The SXSW Tech Department is seeking an intern to assist our team in the buildup, support, and execution of SXSW 2017. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to help with basic network/IT troubleshooting, equipment organization, and overall staff support, amongst additional criteria.
